September 2017 news

1. I have purchased the pavers and will get a trailer load of crusher dust for the base.
We will need to have a working bee. I have checked the weather for the next few weeks and Saturday 6 th October seems to be the best day. Could you please let me know if this is suitable for you and I will make it a permanent date. Could you please bring a shovel or spade and knee pads. We also need a rubber hammer. We already have a level scraper at the field and I can bring a lawn level. We need about 6 members to do the job and would start about 9 am.

2. The field will need mowing soon so looking for volunteers. It takes about 3 hrs and you will need a change of shirt, hat, ear muffs, glasses ( safety or sun).

3. I am having a garage clean out and will leave unwanted model equipment in the shed. Please help yourself to anything or it will be taken to the tip.

4. MAAA are fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in October and asking clubs to either organize a rally / open day or purchase badges at $5 each. Some members have already given me their money so if you are interested could you please give me your donation before the end of September so I can order the required number of badges.

PMAC news. August 2017
1. Dennis and I renewed the club lease with the Cooma Ti-Tree trustees today.
The government now insists that all clubs using crown land must pay the NEW full amount of $279 PA.
However Tony Kaltoum, secretary/ treasurer of the trustees committee held a meeting recently and decided that we should only pay $100 PA. A very generous offer. We thanked Tony and paid the $100 and signed the new lease.
We also told him that the front gate is still broken and there are rabbits on the lease. He is considering approaching the council and sharing the cost of building a regulation front gate that is further back from the road. This will also service the proposed new cemetery. The man who leases the remainder of the paddock is responsible for maintenance of the lease infrastructure, spraying of weeds and eradication of vermin. He will speak to that lessee shortly.
2. The club has also received a payment of $250 for the cost of the ride- on mower we purchased recently.
3. The club has sufficient funds to purchase pavers to cover the area near the door of the clubhouse. The resin water seems to drain to there and leave a wet area. If we spread crusher dust and lay the pavers it should raise the height and keep it dry under foot.
Let me know what you think. We would have a working bee to do the job.
4. There were 2 unexplained radio failures and consequent crashes last Sunday on electric powered models. There have been 5 similar incidences in the last 2 years.
5. The weather should improve Alitalia from now on and hopefully we will get some more flying done.
5. I think it would be a good idea for all members to get their bronze wings soon. This will allow members to fly at any other MAAA registered field. Peter or I can test you. The maneuvers are not difficult and all would pass quite easily.
6. The new membership cards have arrived. I will pass them out or leave them on the table in the clubhouse.

August 2017 addendum

1. There are sheep back in the paddock.

2. Six of us were talking today and decided that starting this Sunday (27.8.17)
flying will start at 9 am again. The weather should start to improve and the wind usually is light in the morning.

PMAC news. July 2017
1. I have posted the renewal forms away to AMAS. The registrar will be away for 2 weeks so it may be some time before we receive our new cards. Some members still have to pay their fees do I will send a second renewal form later.
2. The windy weather is definitely here so rug up well and bring your heavy models to fly for the next 3 months.
3. Louis and I went to the Canberra scale rally early in July. Cold and breezy but some really nice, large models and some good flying. The model that impressed us was a Piper Comanche twin about 2.4 m wingspan which was flown in a very scale fashion.

c. Electric glider comp, 4 th December at Goulburn. (Swan Cup)
I hope to attend each of these and hope some members will enter the glider comp. it is an easy going type comp. depends on the weather
5. Grant Mannerwaring, Belconnen club, is trying to organize a non stressful electric glider comp, maybe later this year and early next year. One round at a Canberra club, one at Goulburn and one here in Cooma. He and a few other club members are intending to have a day wth us for general flying and discuss rules for the glider comp.
6. I am looking around for cheap pavers to go in the entry area of the clubhouse. It seems the water drains there and it remains wet. Will pull up the old carpet and lay crusher dust as a base for the pavers. We need 6 sq. m of pavers.

PMAC news 2017
1. Annual fees become due by the end of June. I have received MASNSW fees. I think the fees should be Senior $140, junior $40 and social $5. This should cover our annual lease fee of $218, mower and blower fuel and oil, a small postage cost and general funds. Please pay me, preferably in cash, or cheque made out to Rick Harris.
2. I haven’t received any information about a grant for the mower but I feel the wheels turn very slowly.
3. I think social fees should remain at $5. These members are already members of Jindabyne. This way, when they fly at Cooma, they won’t have to sign the visitors book.
4. Ian has purchased a patio heater for $20 but it needs a gas bottle. I will pick it up and take it to the field. It will probably fit onto the 9 kg gas bottle we already have.
5. If everybody pays, maybe $1 for coffee and maybe 20 c for tea it will pay for itself.
6. I will get the shade cloth curtain sewn to size and fit eyelets asap.
7. Graham Cooke paid a quick visit a few weeks back. He is now back home. Good to see you Cookie.
8. The cold and windy weather is almost here so bring those warm clothes and heavier models.

March news 2017
1. There are still sheep in the paddock so raking and/ or blowing the strips is still necessary.
2. I have sprayed a few more of the weeds. Greg is going to mow the field soon.
3. I have emptied the porta pottie so it will be ready for use again. Please let me know if it is
full or doesn’t pump water as it was empty.
4. I have removed some of the gravel at the front gate so it should now close a bit easier.
5. I have applied for a grant from MAAA to pay for the mower but don’t know how long it will take or if we will be successful.
6. A thick fog, on Sunday, prevented us from flying for a while but turned into a good day. This is the best time of the year for flying but expect fogs from now on.
7. Fees become due at the end of June and Rod has suggested that associate members pay more in future. We can discuss this next week.
8. I took some drone footage of the field but still unable to load on to our website, YouTube or a DVD. I hope to get Michael to assist when he comes at Easter. The club website is cooma- aeromodellers.org.au. I have added another photo recently.
9. Don’t forget Sunday 9 th April is our glider, electric power models only day. The ACT clubs and Bega have been invited. Flying from 9 am till ???. Bring your own lunch, drinks etc or cook on the BBQ.
10. A good roll up last Sunday with good flights. Louis now has his motor running well and landing with the motor still running, Rod had a successful flight, Clinton and Ian both had motors disengage ?! from the airframe- I will use locktite on the screws in future, Adrian had a model that completed loops automatically, my parachute man still needs some minor adjustments, Ross’s flutter finally caused one aileron to break and Graham’s little yellow thing had a demise, Greg’s model failed to take off, Kevin had a good day, George has his donated plane performing well and Pete is now landing his aerobatic plane pretty well.
11. The royal tennis club will be replacing some of the synthetic surface soon and I have indicated we will help remove the old bits, hopefully in longer lengths. We will try to remove some of the sand before loading to make it lighter.

February 2017 news
1. There are sheep back in the paddock
2. I have sprayed the weeds around the tyres again but ran out of spray to do at the back of the clubhouse. I will do that area asap depending on the wind.
3. I have looked at the weather maps and the winds are forecast as south westerly for next Sunday which was a proposed slope soaring day. At present I doubt if we will go as we need easterlies or SE or NE.
4. I will be at the field this Sunday but will then be away until Friday 17 th March.
5. Sunday 19 th March is a proposed slope soaring day so we may go then, depending on the wind direction.
6. Burnum and Olo have nearly completed their gliders and hope to test fly them this Sunday.
